A fantasy novel. FIRST EDITION, Variant binding; publisher's dark green cloth, with gilt bordered titles to spine, author imprint in gilt without border, triple blind-ruled border to boards, white endpapers, no adverts. Not recorded by G.H.Wells. The standard binding is red cloth with same gilt-bordered title to spine but author imprint is also bordered. Title panel is then repeated on upper cover, but has no blind ruling. This copy shows a light general wear, rubbed to extremities. Very good indeed. Lack of ads suggests a secondary binding, although the red cloth binding firsts were issued with various ads dated July 1902, through to Sept. 1909 and perhaps later. We can not be certain of the time of binding, but the style is certainly uncommon, and is scarce thus. Geoffrey H.Wells. [21]. Bleiler; Checklist of Fantastic Literature [308].
