Original map of Edinburgh and the east coast of Scotland. Most of the map is in black-and-white. Light brown shows points of elevation. Dark orange lines highlight routes. No date, circa 1890s. 17 1/4" x 7." Map has vertical fold lines and a horizontal fold line, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles, slight age toning, and a closed tear measuring about 1/2" x 1" on left edge (mostly in margin but affects a small part of map; could form into a chip). A Very Good copy. Map shows Edinburgh, the east coast of Scotland, and surrounding area. Cities, routes, and natural features are shown. Neatline included. Engraved by W. & A. K. Johnston, an engraving firm founded in 1826 by brothers William Johnston (1802-1888) and Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) in Scotland. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
