Cable (1844-1925) was an American author who is best-known for his novels that accurately portray Creole life and culture in New Orleans, Louisiana. Cable was one of the few authors at the time to openly address racism and mixed-race marriages, and he supported racial equality. His works were seen as controversial, so he moved to Northampton, Massachusetts. However, Cable's new place of residence did not deter him and he continued to write about Southern life. F. C.
