Anonymous : The Turnhalle. Link from the Past, Forged into the Chain of Current Events
(Cape Town and Windhoek: Gunther Komnick Studio, 1979)
295 x 260 mm; pictorial wrappers; unpaginated (pp. 24); map; liberally illustrated, largely in full colour on thick art paper. Wrappers a little rubbed, with small crease to corner of upper cover, and scuff to edge of lower cover; archival tape reinforcing to hinges. Very good condition. A scarce souvenir publication, celebrating the function of Windhoek's Turnhalle, a building dating from German colonial times, and used as a base by the delegates (sanctioned by the South African government) meeting to determine a new constitution for South West Africa. "An anxious clamour is heard every now and then that things are moving too slowly. Perhaps - but consider the simile of the little tree ... On the other hand, if the old Turnhalle could undergo a complete face lift in six weeks, then why shouldn't the Turnhalle Conference produce a model constitution within two years, one that will embody all the best ideals of true democratic liberty? The Turnhalle has found many friends among people of all ranks and walks of life, both at home and abroad. These are sincere well-wishers who fearlessly champion the cause for which the Turnhalle stands."
