From an introductory note: (This book) "has been reprinted almost entire the publication .entitled 'A Brief Memoir of William Penn' enlarged by copious selections from his letters and particulars respecting his treaties with the Indian tribes. These have been taken mainly from Enock Lewis' 'Life of William Penn' . and a publication entitled 'North American Indians and Friends' . The chapter respecting the calumnies of T.B. Macaulay has been prepared for this work from reliable and uncontroverted authorities." A two page appendix at the conclusion of the book is an 1857 speech by Sam Houston, then a United States Senator from Texas, about friendly relations with American Indians. 172 pages.
